What We Believe

  What We Believe
As a confessional Lutheran church and a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), St. Paul's Lutheran Church believes in God's Word as it is presented in the Holy Bible.  Our beliefs can be summed up in three statements, first stated by Martin Luther 500 years ago during the Protestant Reformation.

Sola Fide - We are saved only by faith in Jesus Christ.  "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." - Mark 16:16

Sola Gratia - Saving faith is a gift of grace, freely given by God through the Holy Spirit without any merit or works done by us.  "For by grace you have been saved through faith.  And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9

Sola Scriptura - The means by which the Holy Spirit gives faith is through the Holy Scriptures alone.  The entire Bible is the infallible and complete Word of God.  "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ." - Romans 10:17
